Michael Kilman I think one of the most interesting worlds out there right now is Brent Week's Chromeria... or Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn universe... in either one I would love to learn their systems of magic.
Michael Kilman I knew it was a bad sign when the strange bite mark swelled to enormous size. Then what I thought was a harmless lump, started speaking to me through telepathy.
Michael Kilman It's like I don't have a choice. I am miserable if I'm not writing. It is as if some kind creature is pushing on my chest from the inside and will burst forth if I don't jot some of what it wants down. And the last thing you want is an alien to burst forth from your chest and take over a spaceship right?
Michael Kilman "Who knows where thoughts come from, they just appear."
Michael Kilman I actually wrote a whole blog about this. I hope some of you reading it find it helpful.

Michael Kilman My current series is the Chronicles of the Great Migration. Book 1, Mimi of the Nowhere is in the final stages of production. Book 2 Upon Stilted Cities is being edited. Book 3, 4, and 5 are in process. I actually jump around to each of them a lot.

I am also working on two stand-alone horror novels and have the beginnings of a fantasy series for the future.
Michael Kilman I actually don't really get writer's block. Usually what happens to me is that I get sidetracked in one of the many stories I am working on. If I ever get stuck in one, I just write in another.

The one time I do get writer's block, is when I try to plot a story. Plotting, character profiles, mapping out settings, these are all things I avoid like the plague. I save any of that stuff for second or third drafts.
Michael Kilman The best thing about writing is that you get to spend as much time as you want in the worlds you create. Sometimes, when you read a series and it ends, you feel like you want more. You might miss the characters or that particular universe. In writing, you can always create another story, always another avenue or possibility, even if that section never sees the light of day.

For me, writing is like reading and so I never know what's around the next corner. I never plot and so I am always surprised. That surprise is another perk of writing.
