In my new book, M1ST3R WH1SK3RS, I became ill with an unidentified virus 10 years back that lead to severe fatigue. Very severe. Sleeping 16-18 hours a day, my brain started talking to itself to remain active. This lead to some bizarre imagery and an idea about a virus that could talk to its host. There were also dreams about a woman with half her head missing. So, unlike a lot of books I'll write, this one was something of a process of dream incubation.

I come from a family of artists. I tried the college/corporate safety career. Didn't work out. You can only avoid yourself for so long.

The third Psychic Karate book will cap off what I'm thinking of as the "contemporary phase." Like the first two books, it will be a standalone novel, a monster story fused with other genres and so heavily illustrated as to appropriate comic/manga sensibilities into its construction. Future books will be more like period pieces, not necessarily novels and feature monsters less visible in the overall narrative... but still in keeping with that classic, hopeless sense of total doom that keeps the recipe tasty.

I don't experience much "block" in my writing or drawing, but when I know I'm pushing myself too hard, I take time to experience someone else's art... usually bands, because that's not my skillset. I find that daily immersion in art helps, but when you just can't do your own, get out of the house and check out someone else's!!!
