Jim Infantino I've been writing extremely short stories for a few decades now. They rhyme and have a melody and I refer to them as songs. When inspiration struck in the past, it was usually for a song. A few to several years ago, inspiration struck for something much larger than a song or even an album of songs and I realized I had a novel to write. I tried to avoid it but the inspiration wouldn't leave me and I became that annoying guy at parties with an idea for a novel I might write someday. Knowing this was unsustainable, I finally just made a start. I had a lot of great early readers help me out. They helped turn the early chapters into a sort of performance. In the end, it was done and it was far less painful than I had imagined. It was very much like writing one of those songs, except it doesn't really rhyme.
Jim Infantino I am working on book 2 in the Wakeful Wanderer series. I don't have a title just yet. When I finished the first book, I realized there was so much more to explore still and I wanted to go further with it. There are also so many questions about the Memoria, Nora, and Barnabas, as well as Marto and Helen. So, I hope to have this next one out before too long.
Jim Infantino I was on a bus with my friend Josh, coming home to Boston from NYC where we had played a gig at the Living Room. I had the seat by the window and I was staring down at passing cars. In every other car, the driver was texting. I remember wondering what is so compelling about a short bit of information that people are willing to risk their lives to send and receive it? Then suddenly, this whole scenario complete with a new economy, and new cultures fell from the sky right into my mind. That became the world of The Wakeful Wanderer.
Jim Infantino I daydream about my characters. What do I still not know about them? What pains them? What inspires them?
I also daydream about the world I've created. What are the unseen pitfalls? What are the dangers and what are the joys of that world?
Then I wonder, given the world and the character, what are they likely to do next?
