Mark Cindell I try to keep myself around things that create inspiration, it doesn't matter if it's cartoons, video games, movies or simply reading new books. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King, James Patterson & John Katzenbach. Else than that I also create my own playlists on my phone & Spotify a lot of times depending what type of scene I create is what I'll listen to, for example: if it's a sad scene I'll listen to music that usually reminds me of sad moments in my life, yup I know that just sounds weird but the truth is if when I'm sad or almost at the edge of crying that pretty much when I can write the saddest scenes of a book, cause the emotions that are running through my veins are raw. I also use a lot of movie scores or instrumental music. But of course this is all just personal preferences everybody has their own method of finding inspiration.
Mark Cindell I just finished my first draft for a thriller book called: The art of blood a serial killer whom is imprisoned and calls out to a journalist to write his story, the journalist starts to question if the serial killer was found or if he wanted to be imprisoned and if this was the whole plan all along. I've only finished the 1st draft so basically I'm still at the chalk board, I literally wrote five drafts for In Between until I finally was able to feel content with the book, apart from that I"m writing a science-fiction book called: Memories of Tomorrow, a Post-Apocalyptic book called Beyond the Fog, and adventure book called: The playground and there are approximately 5-7 stories left, but that'll be for after I finish these three books and whichever more drafts I complete for the Art of blood.
Mark Cindell read as much as possible, and write as much as possible, as cliche as that may sound it's the truth, don't pay attention to what everyone is saying and just keep writing, trolls and haters will always exist and are hiding since day one of your book launch, the thing you should understand is that many probably even all of these trolls / haters are simply people that didn't dare to accomplish the goal you've just passed after finishing your book. Last but not least, remember that it doesn't matter if maybe the 50 co-workers that you sit aside or the hundreds of students you know back at college don't like or appreciate your book, there are millions and millions of people that appreciate and share the same ideas you do on this over populated earth, maybe as far as Japan, Africa or Germany, the simple task is finding and connecting with the world to discover those out there who will like you book, once that is done, you'll find your followers and be able to push forward in your journey to success as an author.
Mark Cindell Wow, I don't even know where to start, to me it's just an open space, or as a writer lets just say a blank notebook. You can write whatever you want about wherever or whoever you'd like to write about, it could be a book about a land full of rainbows, or a serial killer obsessed with zodiac signs or a apocalyptic world filled with horrors. There are so many possibilities and the fact that no one can tell you what to write is greatest part, also as an author the fact that you can write something magical or touching and the fact that it might be read by someone on the other side of this earth is amazing yet so moving. I love writing it doesn't matter what genre it is, once I get a new idea I just lock myself away and write, it's something personal that no one can take away from, it's a goal that not only you can put for yourself but also a goal that only you can achieve.
Mark Cindell Fortunately until this moment, I haven't suffered severely by writers block, I do through have suffered from the excuse syndrome, which is pretty much find the excuse of other things to do, to avoid writing, the one remedy I've found or method I've developed when my brain feels stuffed and I can't find the words to keep writing on a certain book, I simply take that time to write on a different book, developing this method actually kept me writing more than one book at a time. Due to this I've become more efficient, now and days when my brain gets stuck or my thoughts of a book decide to take a day I simply switch to another book I'm working on. Until now this has done an amazing job.
Mark Cindell I'm a huge comic book fan and I truly loved a comic book called Spawn which told the story of a fallen man whom after his death made a deal with a demon to be able to walk again amongst the living human and see his wife once more, but that deal came at a huge sacrifice. Of course this was when I was just a kid, when I grew older I kept recurring to this concept I was obsessed with this idea, literally for years I did nothing but write day and night I even constantly dreamt about the story until one day, it was done the book was finished and I had accomplished a dream and goal I had for more than ten years.
