I started a bunch of books that I didn't finish this summer. One that I did finish was "On Love and Frugality" by Allison Romain-Dika. I "know" her from Twitter (@DikaRomain), and I really liked her memoirs.

I get inspired to write when I want to understand something. Maybe it's just my thoughts I want to read. Perhaps I'm trying to learn something outside of my head. But for whatever reason, I learn better when I have to teach it back. Sometimes I talk to myself just because I have to explain what I'm learning, or I won't absorb it. I hope I don't come across as a know-it-all. I write with the assumption that someone might want to learn from what I'm "teaching," and that helps me understand it.

I don't sleep when I'm wide awake. I don't eat when I feel stuffed. I don't run when I'm not in a hurry. I don't sit on the toilet when I don't have to go. I don't flirt with people I'm not attracted to. I don't write anything when I don't have ideas pouring out of my head. That's the natural way to deal with writer's block. Just don't write anything.
