Summoned by the ghostly Custodian, Rune is shaken to learn the Flame of Blesora is dying. Knowing it may bring about the vanishing, he vows to do whatever is needed to prevent the invisible thief of souls from rising. Along with the elite Guardians, he leaves for the Mortal Realm, hoping to discover the one who can put on the talisman he was forced to swallow and now carries within.
Sal Smith is fed up. Her marriage is as lifeless as her work. And the voices which have been with her since childhood won’t be silenced. With nothing to lose she puts her faith in them, giving up everything to head for the sanctuary of the Mountains.
Crossing paths with the wolf pack is her destiny, for when she wakes the next morning, it's to find them waiting. But Sal isn't afraid, instead, brazenly greeting Rune and the Guardians who have been searching for the chosen one.
When Sal successfully dons the talisman, it sets in motion a physical and spiritual evolution beyond her wildest imaginings, whilst for the people of Blesora, it will bring salvation… maybe. (hide spoiler)]
