Whoo-hoo! My first question from outside the site! My next book, The Blindness of Odile is set in 1970 Cambridge, England. The main character, Odile, is attending grad school at Newnham college, trying to make a name for herself. She is a non-believer until she has a near death experience in which God speaks to her. Then she is on a transforming journey to learn about loving others and letting go of her ego. I just got the proof yesterday and am proofreading now. Bless you Janis!

My next book, The Blindness of Odile, is in the works. Set in 1970 Cambridge, England when there were no mobile phones and visiting Americans like Odile Travers had to find a phone box and figure out how many shillings to put in. Sometimes they had to push Button A to be heard by the person they called. Numerous such hurdles to survival in a strange culture confront Odile when she comes to Cambridge hoping to make a big splash in grad school, only to face some hard truths and start a new life. Keep and eye out for the launch in spring of 2021.

A few years ago, I read The Meaning of Mary Magdalene by Cynthia Bourgeault and found it eye-opening. Then I found Karen L. King's book and Meggan Watterson's book on Mary and the lost Gospel of Mary. Frustrated with how the established church (in nearly all its denominations) has marginalized women, I asked the question, "What if women led the church?" From there, I continued researching and imagining. I call my main character based on Mary Magdalene "Magdalena" to differentiate her from all the other Marys in the Biblical tradition, and I fell in love with her and her family.
I take liberties with the Biblical accounts, combining them with imagination, extra-Biblical tradition, and newly found ancient documents. My book will appeal most to the open-minded, the spiritual, contemplatives, and feminist Christians. Remember, it's historical fantasy fiction!
