I.L. Cruz I'm glad people are excited to read what happens next for Inez! Book three, A Rebel's Path, should be out by mid 2021.
I.L. Cruz Alison threw back the sheets and screamed. It hadn't been a dream after all.
I.L. Cruz The world created by Erin Morgenstern in The Night Circus would be a great place to visit as a patron (not a performer). I would walk around the tents every night they were in town from opening to closing exploring all the shows and experiencing the permanent exhibitions. I was particularly intrigued by the carousel with real animals!
I.L. Cruz This year I tried making my own reading challenge--speculative fiction about POCs by POCs--preferably adult fiction.
I.L. Cruz My current book, A Smuggler's Path is the first of four books in my Enchanted Path series. But I do have a few standalone books waiting in the wings for their moment! Thanks for the question :)
I.L. Cruz I don't like to call it writer's block. It's more of a dry spell. To refill I use writers' prompts and exercise my short story skills. I find that writing with outside direction leads to new ideas.
I.L. Cruz Naming things. I know it sounds silly, but coming up with names for people and places is definitely an unexpected highlight. It's what leads to creating new worlds and characters.
I.L. Cruz My advice is you'll get plenty of advice about writing from professionals, websites, blogs, and books. Try all of it and then figure out what works for you. Some people have to write everyday, others can wait for inspiration. You can write what you know, but that doesn't mean you can't learn something new. Read good and bad books. And enjoy it!
I.L. Cruz Besides working on rewrites for the next book in my Enchanted Path series, I have a novella (also a series) that I hope to publish in October. It's called The Cemetery Circle and the idea came to me on vacation in Scotland. There were these cute cottages and they surrounded a cemetery. And then I wondered, who would live right next to a cemetery?
I.L. Cruz Honestly, everything inspires me to write. Sometimes it's a gnarled tree alone in a field. Other times a dream will lead me to a good story. Being a writer has made me more observant and my observations have led to so many ideas.
I.L. Cruz I was reading fairy tales and nursery rhymes to my daughter and then I started thinking about how popular fairy tale rewrites were becoming. But no one thought about Mother Goose. I wanted to know the world rhymes inhabited. The story just unfolded from there.
