Doc Norton I am inspired by multiple sources.

Many blogs are inspired by things I see in my work as a lean and leadership coach. I often find a topic for a blog post by looking at Q&A sites. Either I see a number of questions around the same topic or I see a number of answers that don't represent a particular perspective.

Keynote presentations are usually a result of research done in support of a blog post. I'll find something that challenges my own thinking. Perhaps it is something that contradicts industry common knowledge or maybe it is a different perspective or model.

Books are a combination of the above. As I blog and present on a topic or a related set of topics, the notion of a book begins to form.
Doc Norton Years ago, I began to notice teams overly focused on velocity goals. This lead to behavior that was often counter-productive. I decided to look into it and found academic, scientific, and industry papers and information that lead me to write a talk on how metrics can be abused. That material and several more years of research and practice eventually lead to me writing the book, "Escape Velocity".
