They paint very different pictures of the man from the one most people know. They made me wonder what other evidence there was for Socrates as a younger man, and that led to my uncovering and reinterpreting ancient sources to reveal a radically different Socrates from the old, ugly, thinker who was sentenced to death and made to drink the hemlock.
