Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Armand D’Angour I have been teaching two central texts about Socrates for decades - Aristophanes' Clouds and Plato's Symposium. They paint very different pictures of the man from the one most people know. They made me wonder what other evidence there was for Socrates as a younger man, and that led to my uncovering and reinterpreting ancient sources to reveal a radically different Socrates from the old, ugly, thinker who was sentenced to death and made to drink the hemlock.
