Growing up I loved reading. Devoured every book I could lay my hands on. Losing hours wandering the library's stacks, reading random books on random topics became my candy. Even though I spelled terribly and remained clueless about grammar rules, I loved putting words together. Then, when I realized I saw life in ways others sometimes missed, I knew I'd found my sweet spot.

Start today. Write something every day. Don't quit.

Do the work and don't quit.
Start typing (or scribbling on paper) whatever crosses your mind. Even if it's something like, "I have no idea what to write and sitting here in front of a blank page is the stupidest thing I've ever done and I can't imagine whatever gave me the idea I could write..." If I keep my hands moving on the keyboard, eventually something comes out. And, most often, it surprises me. Didn't even know I was thinking or feeling it. And then, if I don't quit, the words slowly morph into something worth reading.

While flying over the Amazon Jungle, the clouds' otherworldliness captured my imagination. I planned a coffee-table book of dramatic pictures. But after tropical mold serendipitously ate 150 of my best slides, I realized there was a deeper, more important story. Only the tiniest fraction of our planet's population ever get to see what I saw, do what I did, feel what I felt every day. My desire to share that rare, unseen experience motivated me to write Mile-High Missionary.

I'm working on a near-future SciFi novel called, The Perelandra Paradox. It should see the light of day this Fall.
