She heard the steps clacking on the marble of the mausoleum behind her. Which was disturbing to her because she thought she had been buried alone.

Almost any Neil Gaiman world would work for me. I read a lot of horror, otherwise, so I wouldn't really want to actually visit any of those places except in my mind lol.

I spent the summer finishing my latest book and didn't get to read much. Reading is an integral part of writing, so now that my latest is out I can dive into my pile of books! I just re-read a classic horror for October, as I always do. This year it was Turn of the Screw.

Thank you Teresa, Im so glad you enjoyed the book. And I appreciate your feedback. To be honest I had an editor but I failed to hire a proofreader because we had both read it so many times. The amazing thing about reading your own work 100 times is that you can no longer see grammatical errors or spelling mistakes because you know what its supposed to be. However, the next book Minor Arcana, due out in December, I wised up and did that...which is easier than going back into formatting and fixing previous mistakes lol. So thank you so much for the support and I hope you will read and enjoy the next book in the series!

Time and a little distance. Read something else by someone else. Writing exercises help. But if writers block persists it can sometimes be because your characters are not doing what they should be doing. You created them and gave them backstory and life...so let them tell their story.

Using words to paint a scene and create entire new worlds. New characters who act as you want and some who stubbornly act as they want. World building is a real writer's high.

Write everyday.

I am currently working on a sequel to my book Queen of Swords. I have done some extensive traveling for this one. France and Africa last summer, if that is any indication. So we will step outside of the American south for part of this one.

No writer is always ON. No matter what your process we all need to tap into that part of our brain before we begin the creative process. For me, if I am not yet in the mood, I have a technique where I write without direction or grammar or punctuation for half an hour to prime the pump. I just start brainstorming, not to do with whatever I'm working on, just mindlessly storytelling. And usually when I turn back to my story I am ready to be in that world.

My first inspiration for this book was a picture that I saw, a painting, of an antebellum mansion in a bayou. It was so evocative that I saw it and immediately started writing. I wanted to blend adventure and suspense to create something sexy and fun as well as scary.
