Jodi Rath My business demands that I do daily work as an adjunct ( I work with Ohio teachers online teaching professional development courses). Also, I always have two to three educational articles I'm working on monthly. Then, I have my fictional writing as well. I find that I don't get writer's block because I am always moving from one project to another. I'm thankful for that!
Jodi Rath Every . . . single . . . thing!!!! No joke! I've worked as a VP of a credit union, in insurance, advertising, communications, and education. For me, education was the most multitasking I've ever done! Now that I own my business and write full time (I write educational articles for affiliations, blogs, and publishers regularly--also, I write fiction--my cast iron series--two more series are currently being developed too) I multitask more than I ever have. I work seven days a week all hours of the day. I've never worked so hard in all my life. I never understood what people meant by the phrase "When you do what you love you will never work a day in your life!" Now, I completely understand that phrase. I have to force myself to sleep or not take my laptop to friend or family gatherings.
Jodi Rath Don't think too much about it; just do it! As a kid, I found time to write all the time because I loved it. When I was in college, I took every creative writing course I could to continue to write. As an adult, I got a career--well, several careers. I stopped writing for a long time and I lost a huge piece of myself. About eight years ago, I was in a job where I LOVED the actual job itself, but there were some not so nice people I worked with--I started writing again to escape the meanness and corruption around me. That was the best thing to ever happen to me! I couldn't stop and now I write more than I ever have and I love it! So yeah, don't give up on yourself--no matter what!
Jodi Rath After I finished book one, Pineapple Upside Down Murder, the plan was to work on book two. I was asked to join a Valentine's Day Anthology with nine other cozy mystery writers. They are all such wonderful women and writers that I could not pass that up. So, I wrote "Sweet Retreat," a short story from The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series as a continuation where book one left off. I am now working on book two, Jalapeño Cheddar Cornbread Murder, which comes out June 21, 2019.
Jodi Rath I have loved to write since I was five-years-old. I used to play "magazine" where I'd take my mom's old magazines and cut them up then glue them back together to make my own spread. I'd use my dolls and stuffed animals as my staff and use a red marker to mark-up copy edits--I didn't really understand that concept then though! LOL At age eight I signed up to win a set of World Book Encyclopedias at the Fairfield County Fair and I won! I used to close my eyes and pick a book then open it and pick a page and then read the entry and then write a summary pretending I was a journalist. So, it's really not difficult for a kid like that to get inspired to write:)
Jodi Rath My grandma gave me her 70-year-old cast iron skillet for Christmas in 2017. She has only ever made pineapple upside down cake in it. This sparked the idea for The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series and the title for book one: Pineapple Upside Down Murder.
