I only write when I'm inspired, so forcing myself to write doesn't work. I need to find a way to connect with inspiration - so going for a walk, watching a movie, reading a classic...all of those things can help. I'm also a lifelong learner, so taking a writing class or reading a book on creative writing can also inspire me.

Being able to explore different worlds from my living room. Of course, that's the best thing about reading too!

Don't worry about getting it perfect. Do lots of research. Get inside of the feelings. Music can really help you with that.

Currently, I'm working on a 4 volume historical fiction series. It's about a group of devoted environmentalists who live in a community. But then they split up and the children are all separated. My first book is about how they find each other again and what brings them together. Like The Timeshare, it focuses on complex relationships and difficult circumstances.

I am inspired by everything! The other day I was at lunch with a friend and noticed the severe angle of the street and thought about how remarkable it was that the cars didn't all slide to the bottom. That gave me an idea to use in my next book where one of the characters is grappling with anxiety attacks. I am inspired by art, by actors, movies, books, friends. I think it's about being willing to be in that mindset - we're surrounded by remarkable and astounding things.

I have really vivid dreams, so most of the ideas for my books come in as snippets from dreams. Occasionally, as with The Timeshare, large pieces come through and I wind up writing at 4am!
