A.M. Dorhauer I get to play with my imaginary friends every day, and so long as I write the adventures we have on paper no one questions it.
A.M. Dorhauer First, get rid of the notion that you're an "aspiring" writer. You're only an "aspiring writer" if you've never written anything outside of school or work. You already are a writer!

Next, don't assume that you always have to be writing in order to maintain your status. I can't remember what days I did or didn't write- all I know is that I finished, and that's what matters. Set schedules by all means- but don't put such high demands on yourself.
A.M. Dorhauer My writing stems from a lot of daydreaming, mixed with reading lots of books and going out and doing things with people. Or, you know, standing in the shower contemplating life's meaning as I search for the shampoo with suds in my eyes.

Mostly the latter.
A.M. Dorhauer For Maple Street, I was actually inspired by my sister's Father's Day card. She wrote "Happy Father Day, Dad" and it made me think of how there really aren't two dads exactly alike- even the houses on the street were filled with people who have had experiences and stories that I wasn't aware of.
Then the wind happened to shift, making me think about trees of fire and pine logs burning under open skies, and thus the concept of a street filled with Halloween creatures was devised.
