A dark, twisted, cob-web ridden section of my brain. Everybody has these unnatural thoughts, writers just choose to share them with their unsuspecting relatives. A novel is a collection of thousands of inspired and random ideas, all housed into a singular title. Write them all down, every strange thought that pops in your head. You never know where they'll take you.

Guilt mostly. I am a very structured, habitual person and I cannot sleep without completing my own mental "to-do list." Even if I write only a sentence or a partial thought, that is enough to ease my mind. Something to move the marker toward my goal, if only a centimeter. I love writing, and without it, I don't feel whole.

Two separate novels. One I have been working on for about two years while the other I just began this week. This new novel has me more excited than anything I've ever written before. A violent tale of a sub-culture that our society cannot do without, yet many barely acknowledge its existence.

Be willing to sacrifice! Writing, and more importantly, completing The Muse was my life's biggest challenge. I put my all into every line, into every page. You're going to miss some events, you're going to miss some memories, you may even lose some friends. Don't half-ass it, let it consume you. You'll be shocked at what you gain in the end.

People's reactions are great, especially when they gain a new perspective and perception of who you are through your writing. I've been very surprised by the overwhelming support from readers and friends. But, the best part is just having a creative outlet to express myself. Even if I never decided to be published, I would still write. It is extremely cathartic, meditative, and truly makes you appreciate all of the world's fine details.

Take a break! As a writer, you learn to 'feel' when you're work is becoming sub-par and forced. I'll typically put the story I'm currently struggling with away and start something completely new.
