Robyn Ponticel Writer's block is tough. It comes and goes in waves for me, usually a week or so at a time. During that period I'll try to write, but normally end up just re-reading what I've already written and not adding much to it. I found that writing ideas down on physical pen and paper helps get me out of a stint of writer's block. Even if I never use the ideas I write down, it still helps pull me out of a slump.
Robyn Ponticel The fame and fortune of course! (sarcasm) The greatest thing about writing for me, a fantasy author, is getting to make up whatever in any world comes into my head. If I want to have a purple dragon that wears an eye patch be able to perform magic and talk with a British accent, I totally can.
Robyn Ponticel Don't give up. Most writers know that being an author is not your primary job. It's a secondary job you get to after your day job, if there's time. What a lot of aspiring writers don't realize is your first book rarely gets you recognition. More likely, you'll start to see a small fan base only after your third or fourth book. So if your first book doesn't do well, keep writing! People need time to realize your book is out there, read them, and fall in love with your wonderful story and characters.
Robyn Ponticel Currently, I'm writing book #2 of the Planes of Reverie Series.
Robyn Ponticel I mostly get inspired when I'm bored. My mind tends to wonder when I have nothing to do or nothing in particular to think about. I also get inspired just before bed, which turns into a never-ending cycle of getting up to write ideas down, lying back down, and repeat. Inspiration can sometimes hit me in the middle of a conversation, too, which leads to a "hang on a second I have to write this down!" moment.
Robyn Ponticel I did a lot of traveling for my previous job, driving between 2-6 hours each day to reach different sites. As you can imagine, driving that long gets boring. My brain decided to keep me occupied by coming up with this remarkable idea about a Dream World where people could transform into animals. It all started there and every day that I drove I just kept day-dreaming (safely) on my way to different work sites, getting inspiration from walking around in nature for my job.
