Winnie Winkle When I'm blocked I try to write through it. Even if I dump it all the next day, the act of creating gets fired up a bit, and that seems to clear the block. If I'm tired, and that feeling is feeding the block, I will go and walk on the beach or around a lake if possible. Water tempers my soul.
Winnie Winkle There's a carnival in my head, and I finally have an outlet for it! The absolute best part of being a writer is how being creative feeds greater creativity. I love coming up for air and thinking, "where did that come from?" because I have no idea how what I just wrote came out and changed the story. It's an addicting cluelessness.
Winnie Winkle Write, write, write, and finish. Trust me, every first draft is a dump-fest. The point is to get to the end and then get to the editing. The first novel I wrote went through 4 full edits, and I'll probably do another before agent shopping it again. It's a long process, but I know I'll never do anything else. If you love it, the labor is worth it.
Winnie Winkle I'm currently working on another in the Magic, New Mexico series. This one takes place in Florida, with a lovely water rights activist who doesn't know she's a Nixe, and a couple of Djinns who want to escalate the tension over water rights by draining out the reservoirs. One falls for my sexy Nixe, the other is a Djinn gone bad. It's been a blast to write.
Winnie Winkle The ocean is my muse. When I can, I spend time at my little place on the Atlantic side, facing the ocean, and writing while the waves crash. It's easy to stay in the groove there.
Winnie Winkle I came across a great list of paranormal entities, read about Skinwalkers and Djinns, and that set the wheels in motion.
