Abbie Greaves My second novel is another stand-alone contemporary title. It is provisionally called THE ENDS OF THE EARTH and it is about a woman called Mary who has been keeping a vigil for her first love for the last seven years.

I can't give away much else at this stage but I will do when I can!
Abbie Greaves You get to escape into your imagination every single day. There is honestly nothing that I love more. Reading is a very close second!
Abbie Greaves It's so frustrating when writer's block strikes! I try to make sure that I sit down and right something every day though, even if it is the worst possible 500 words. For me, the routine is so important - every author says that you can't edit a blank page and that is so true!

I always write best in the mornings so usually, by mid-afternoon, I'm hitting my head against the keyboard. I know then that it's time to stop and get some fresh air. A long walk in the park usually helps me switch off (a bit!)
Abbie Greaves Stories in the news often spark ideas for me. Likewise snatches of conversation that I pick up in a cafe or anecdotes that I overhear. You never know what will make a great opening scene for a novel!
Abbie Greaves I got the idea for THE SILENT TREATMENT when I read a newspaper article about a married couple in Japan who hadn't spoken for 23 years. It was such a striking, unsettling image and I couldn't get the idea out of my head.

Although I knew that I wanted to write about silence eating away at a relationship, I also knew that I wanted to explore it in a very different situation. What if there was still the same kindness and affection, it was just words that had disappeared? It wasn’t long before Frank and Maggie were born – two characters whose undeniable love for one another over the course of forty years is threatened by an event that has stolen Frank’s voice for the past six months.

At its heart, THE SILENT TREATMENT is a love story but there's an element of mystery because it isn't until the end that you discover why Frank stopped speaking. I hope you will want to find out what caused the silence!
