For me writing is a form of escape when reality gets too dark, or too boring. I've struggled with depression and anxiety most of my life and writing has always been a way to help me cope. Because of this, some of my most inspirational writing periods have been brought on by difficult times, long car rides, or sitting in a waiting room. It's like they say, necessity is the mother of invention, and I just so happen to need a lot of comforting and a lot of entertainment haha!

It depends on the situation. If I encounter writer's block in the middle of writing a book the best thing I've learned to do is go around it, go on to the next thing you know happens in the book and come back to it later. If that's not an option I consider the possibility that I may be experiencing burn out. If this is the case I will usually try to take time some time off. Taking time off enables you to be inspired by the world around you. But the number one most important thing I've learned to do when I encounter writer's block is to pray. Even though my book is secular I still consider myself a Christian writer, and for me the best thing I can do for any problem in my life is to go to God and seek His instruction. There's usually a good reason for writer's block. Sometimes you just need a break, sometimes you just need some time to let the story cook.

I currently have several Breadwinner related projects going at once. At the moment I'm doing my last read through of book two: The Glassblower, before I send it off to my editor. I'm also working on a self-narrated audiobook of The Breadwinner while writing book three and a prequel simultaneously. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy working on the story otherwise I wouldn't be able to do this much haha!
