Stewart J. Zully There is a rewarding feeling in having a thought or thoughts and then conveying them onto the page. It's a personal challenge, one that can only be accomplished by the individual writer, but the sense of satisfaction is like no other.
Stewart J. Zully Enjoy the act of writing. I have been an actor for 40 years, and I grew to learn that acting had nothing to do with stardom. It has to do with telling stories, creating characters, etc. Don't write to make money, or to be famous. Write to enjoy your love of language, to enjoy creating a story or idea, and then continue to toy with it. Like a sculptor takes a slab of clay and works with it, molding it into a work of art, writers have words in which to sculpt .
Stewart J. Zully Ernest Hemingway felt that if you have writer's block, sit down and write something, anything...even a letter or shopping list. The act of writing can get you going and then you can be off into your imagination, or at least you have the potential to be.
Stewart J. Zully Well, the virus is taking up our lives on a 24/7 basis, so frankly my first and foremost focus is on my health. For years I have taken it for granted, but now I need to build my immune system to fight off what may be lurking. Good health takes time and effort to maintain, and it certainly warrants our attention at this point in our lives. We are facing the greatest challenge of our life, and it demands focus. I tell friends and family, "Stay safe...and stay sane."
Stewart J. Zully I think a writer needs to enjoy the process-it isn't only being inspired; it takes a certain joy in finding the right word or phrase to convey what you mean to say. My experience working in the theatre with new playwrights always leads to the same equation: it isn't writing as much as it's re-writing. The inspiration can come out of us in an impulsive way, but going back and then shaping it to get a finished product is where the ultimate satisfaction lies.
Stewart J. Zully People have often said, "Boy, you could write a book about this place," but they rarely do. The experiences I had working 2500 events in Yankee Stadium, plus my career in show business, motivated me to start to put pen to paper...or fingers to keyboard.
