Stephanie Benjamin I'm behind you. Don't look.
Stephanie Benjamin I use a technique learned in one of my painting classes. Putting the first few strokes, or words, on a blank sheet of paper can be a daunting task. If I feel stuck, I start by writing mundane events from my day. Or if I'm painting, just throwing a few random strokes down. Once I get warmed up, then the rest tends to flow. Working without worry about the final product is helpful place to start.
Stephanie Benjamin Medical students are warned that the third year of med school is the most stressful, exhausting, and confusing year in the whole process of becoming a doctor. Some disturbing phenomenon happens during this year where med students morph from cheerful, motivated, optimistic future doctors into bitter, cynical individuals. I’m became curious about how this happens and to what extent it would happen to my classmates and me. I recorded the entirety of third year of med school on my iPad mini, which happened to fit comfortably in the pocket of my short white doctor’s coat. I recorded events not only as they unfolded, but I also captured how I interpreted those events and how I reacted to them. Medical student secretly turned gonzo journalist!
