If I don't write, I don't eat. Isn't that the same motivation that serves everybody in a job?

This has been a year of Second Editions: Will Eisner: A Spirited Life, Mean Business, The Wawa Way, and Stadium For Rent have all been updated, revised and expanded since 2014. And now I'm doing the same for Fans Not Customers!

Ask lots of questions.
Or, as I used to tell the middle school soccer girls I coached for most than a decade: "You've got two ears, one mouth. Listen twice as much as you speak and you'll go far."
Read your work aloud. Does it sound natural or forced?
And if what you've written is boring you, don't impose it on others! Fix it, rewrite it, and don't share it until you're as excited by it as you want readers to be.

Good question.
For me, it's about learning something new every day, discovering new facts or ideas. I'm never bored by bering a writer; I probably enjoy it too much, judging from how I'm always happy to talk about what I'm working on.
Much of what I do is about sponging up the lives, experiences and stories of other people and finding the best way to package all of that for a large audience. If you like people, even the seemingly dullest person has a good tale to tell and I want to hear it.

I've experienced headaches and stomachaches, but writer's block? Not so much. I think it's the eat or die imperative: if I don't write, my wife, child, my dog and I will starve. That's pretty good daily incentive for waking up each day and getting to work at the keyboard.
It also doesn't hurt that I love what I do and generally can't wait to get at whatever book or other assignment is awaiting my attention.
Writer's block always struck me as something that affects people who are either inexperienced or trying to out-think their project. But that's just my perspective.
