John Schettler I just don't ever have this problem. I say "Time to get Duke Morgin's battle underway," then I just sit down and write it. I'll typically finish Draft 1 of a 300+ page book within 45 to 60 days. My rule of thumb, write at least eight pages per day, so I target most chapters at the 8 page length. 45 days later I've got 360 pages to edit.
John Schettler Be disciplined. Write each day like an athlete who trains each day. Be hopeful, while not expecting the world. Believe in your work and one day, readers will find it too.
John Schettler My new epic fantasy series The Chronicles of Innisfail. Visit writingshop.ws to take a peek.
John Schettler I'll think about my story day and night, and use my note ap on the cell phone when I get ideas. The next day I sit down and just start writing. The inspiration comes from the doing of a thing. If you want to be a writer--then sit down at your desk and write.
John Schettler I started writing aspects of Chronicles of Innisfail as early as my high school days, in dutiful reverence to the great master Tolkien. I developed world maps, genealogies of kings and emperors, and had a dedicated notebook where I kept all the place names to be used in my world building. I had a big box with all this stuff, including sample chapters I had written for it over the years. Now I started writing it in earnest, and completed Volume I in a planned series, finally giving the story life. Of late I've been laboring over the maps and finally got them on the web site at writingshop.ws I just love time spent in this new world!
John Schettler I would travel to the world of my newest book, the Chronicles of Innisfail, as I have to spend a lot of time there worldbuilding in the months ahead. The book is now on Amazon for preorder, an epic fantasy with a military spin. I call it Epic mythic military fiction.
