Angie Vancise Funny this question is being asked. I’ve just finished a mystery novel based on a photo from my past. A photo that belonged to my grandfather who was a police officer of 30 years. His first case and one he never talked about. It was of a woman standing next to a tiny box. The tiny box being a tiny coffin. A writers brain unleashes when you find this photo that your grandfather kept despite not wanting to talk about it. Oh the possibilities. The book is called Hidden in the Shadows and will hopefully be released in 2022.
Angie Vancise Hi Sheila:
Thanks so much for your question and for reading my book! I think I remember you from the reading in Meaford. You have written three books yourself right? I'm so glad you reached out, I had wanted to speak to you before you left but got too busy. I decided to write it as fiction, yes you nailed it, one for the freedom to be able to add scenes or conversations that I wasn't around for but also because I wanted to write it from Ben's perspective. Bottom line I suppose is yes the freedom part of it allowing me to take the story in whatever direction the characters lead me in while basing it on the true story. It took a while to figure out whether it was going to be a memoir or novel. Marketing, ugh yes, I struggle with that part too. I read online that one good thing to do is to review other books that you've read and sign it as you, author of ... It's a free plug and at the same time you are helping the other author by giving a review. Win/win. I have also set up a small advertising campaign both on here and on amazon. I'll see how that does. I also reached out to some local media outlets for interviews and such. Social media has been the best for me thus far. I hope that helps. I want to read your books, are they available online? Or local bookstore?
Angie Vancise In the hospital when my brother was laying unconscious and I witnessed the love Ben's real life character still had for my brother. The story unfolded in my head over the next year after I lost my brother.
Angie Vancise By reading a good book. Other authors writing gets me excited to write. I also am writing in my head all the time.
Angie Vancise I'm going to try my hand at a mystery. I'm plotting it out now as well as working on a memoir of my life and the tragedies I've faced.
Angie Vancise Read...a lot! Keep a notebook handy and jot down any interesting phrases you hear or conversations, ideas that come to you. I have a notebook in my purse, my car, my kitchen and my bedroom. 3am ideas come fast and furious.
Angie Vancise The creativity and freedom to explore all words, phrases, ideas. It takes me away just like reading a good book does.
Angie Vancise I look at an object sitting close by and write about it. It usually gets my creative flow started. I also end in the middle of something that I'm writing keeping the train of thought alive for the next writing session.
