What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Rayna York A brother that was given up for adoption a year and a half before I was born. There is an interesting story behind it that I always wanted to write. Maybe someday I will.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Rayna York Getting lost in another story other than my own, one that I can control. Life can be hard, it's another form of escapism--a healthy one.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Rayna York I wouldn't say I ever have writers block. Some days I have trouble getting lost in a scene, so the words become mechanical instead of from the characters themselves. In that case, I get up and do something else. I try again later, if it's still not there, I try again the next day. For me it's usually a lack of sleep or too many other things on my mind. Sometimes I think it's just age:)

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rayna York Don't every let anyone tell you it's all been done. Every new book that comes out proves the naysayers wrong.
Write from the heart, not what you feel you should write.
Sometimes characters are there talking to you, urging you to write their story. Let them speak.
And last but not least: There are no rules when it comes to creativity.

What are you currently working on?

Rayna York The book I'm currently working on is about a girl whose father wanted by the FBI for embezzling. With her family's wealth seized by the government, her mother moves her and her sister to the small Midwest town where she grew up. Her relationship with her mother is strained at best, and she's force to deal with life's realities and the discovery that she may not have had life figured out like she thought.
