Julie Sneed Womack I've been writing for decades, so to finally have people reading a book that I put my heart and soul into is a dream come true. It brings me true joy when readers of various ages reach out to me and tell me that they related to a character or were moved by the story. The absolute best is to get a selfie of someone with tears in their eyes while reading Tea with Isabel! When they share these thoughts and reactions with me, I feel like I've made a friend.
Julie Sneed Womack If I'm not feeling a certain scene, I will go somewhere else in my manuscript. There's always something I can work on, something I can edit to get me back into the groove. The answer to my "blocked" scene may come to me later (sometimes days later) when I'm taking a walk or driving and my subconscious is working on it. One of the most important lessons I learned when I was a screenwriting major in college was that I didn't have to write the perfect sentence before I moved on to the next one. That's what the delete key is for. I'm going to edit whatever I'm working on countless times before I even show it to someone, so I need to remember to just keep at it, just keep sitting down in front of my laptop.
Julie Sneed Womack Music always inspires me. When I'm walking or jogging and my body is on auto-pilot, the music moves me, and the ideas and character conversations flow. I don't always have a productive workout because I constantly stop to add notes to my phone!
