I find my inspiration for story topics in the news. As is often said,"truth is stranger than fiction." When it comes to writing thriller or espionage novels, there are many topics in the news that make me wonder, "what would happen if someone wanted to X or Y or Z?" I just take those ideas and begin to play with them. Oftentimes if the consequences to the world are catastrophic, I want to write about them so readers can become aware of the staggering dangers facing human civilization.

I am working on the second novel in the Janusz Soltani series. This novel is about the dangers posed by biological weapons. There are a number of infectious diseases out there that pose grave risks to the human race. It is my sincere hope that any nation contemplating using such weapons will have second thoughts by reading novels such as mine that discuss the consequences of such actions.

Don't get intimidated by what other people will think or say about your writing. It's not a contest, writing is about doing something that you find satisfying for yourself before anyone else. Writing is also a skill that you improve over time. The key is to just keep doing it. Even for the best writers, the process is always one full of revision and refinement. The only option is to jump in and keep working at it, and keep working at it, and keep working at it....... Even after years/decades of this process it will never be perfect! Just good enough is all a good writer can hope for.

The best thing about being a Fiction writer is the opportunity to be creative. Writing fiction is similar to being an inventor. You create a world that has certain rules and must make sense. You create characters with certain traits and everything they do has consequences. In a way, being a fiction writer is like being God of a world. You create a world that begins to take on its own dynamic with each chapter, and it is this ability to create something that takes on a life of its own that is so fulfilling.

The best way to deal with writer's block is to start writing. It does not matter if the scene does not come out the way you want. Writing fiction is a process of refinement, you write a scene, and then you rewrite it, and then you rewrite it again..... Therefore the key is to start writing and worry about getting what you want during revisions.
