Just about every book from Laura Thalassa. I had had hand surgery in December and was physically limited. As a result, I was reading, reading, reading. I stumbled on Laura's books, gave one a read, and loved it. Second book: Loved it. Third...you get the picture. She hasn't written a book that I haven't enjoyed yet, so I'm going to make it a point this year to read all of them.
Also, as a self-published writer myself, I'd like to give some love to other self-published authors out there. Right now, Robin Nemesszeghy is at the top of my list.
I also plan on diving back into Andrzej Sapkowski's series of "The Witcher."

The two primary drivers that inspire me to write is music and traveling.
While I am at home, I'll put on some cafe jazz and then the mood sweeps over me. Before I know it, I have a cup of joe at my desk and then I get the urge to start typing away.
I get the same feeling while I travel too. I love the idea being somewhere far away with just me, my laptop, and thoughts to keep me company. I cannot count the number of times I was on vacation and drinking a Pina Colada on the beach while writing.

I was toying around with genres that I was interested in writing. I have a list of books and ideas that I want to one day write about, but I knew that as a new indie author that I should narrow my selection to just one. So, I settled on fantasy.
I started out with one primary character and thought about what I wanted to see her do and what capabilities (and limitations) she may have. Then, it started spiraling out from there. I went from one character to almost a dozen in no time. Like a match to a flame, the ideas started to spread and I ended up creating a different world filled with all kinds of drama. It was fun (and challenging) to write and I hope that readers find it enjoyable.

The best thing about being a writer is that I'm limited only by my imagination. As a writer, you can make worlds, reshape lives, create epic battles,...the list goes on! The world we live in can feel chaotic sometimes. As a writer, it gives me the chance to escape it and allows me to live inside my mind for awhile.

It's a completely normal feeling to be scared to write; especially when it comes time to publish. You are putting yourself out to the world, which will leave you feeling vulnerable. BUT, move past it. Ignore the negativity, do what makes you happy, be honest, and true to your work. Also, never EVER be your worst enemy because YOU need to be your biggest supporter.

The next book in the Queen's Awakening series and some illustrations for my children's books that have been sitting on my shelf for decades.
