J.P. Hostetler Not well.

Sometimes I set a timer on my phone (for 60 minutes or 90 minutes) and don't let myself do ANYTHING except write until that timer beeps.

Sometimes I sit somewhere new, maybe outside or on a trail, and describe the setting around me to get the words flowing.

Mostly writer's block is just a lazy brain fighting back. So dealing with writer's block is similar to dealing with anything of that nature. You need to find the discipline with yourself and make the choice that your dream of realizing a book six months, two years, or fifteen years down the road is only what it is because you made the choice now keep writing.
J.P. Hostetler Hard to say but I guess its like anything that takes time and hard work. You gain an appreciation for those who have come before you. You begin to see what quality is. Beyond this, writing, at least for me, is about finishing what you started. It's becoming a medium for an idea which could someday touch the life of someone else. I think our connection through language, through written words, a thing which transcends time and space, is one of the most beautiful displays of our humanity.
J.P. Hostetler Everyone is aspiring to be something. I would say that failure, more specifically trying, repeatedly, often without success, is surest way to reach your goals.
J.P. Hostetler Multiple projects as I flip between them often. The next project is a very large body of fiction (fantasy series) and the first part of that series will most likely be out within the next year. Thereafter we have to wait and see-I'm thinking of putting something non-fiction together. Something about travel, culture, and how we deal with exposure to both in foreign settings.
J.P. Hostetler Writing, decent writing at least, is not easy for me. I'm sure this is the case for most of us. I really have to force myself to sit down. So I wouldn't say that I get inspired to write. I believe we get inspired to live by our choices and our love for one another. I think that the inspiration you need is already in you-in your soul, your heart, your mind-whatever you believe.

For me, it's about sitting down in one place long enough to let yourself be creative. I think Neil Gaiman says it best with, and I'm paraphrasing, "you need to get really bored in order to be creative."
J.P. Hostetler The idea for my most recent project come from a multitude of places. The best way I can describe it would be like friendship-happening slowly and then all at once. I wanted to write something about the ocean, and I wanted to write something about mythology. This story took on a life of its own, as most do, and I'm excited to give it a life very soon.
