Jacob Paul (J.P.) Hostetler is an American novelist and short story writer.

His debut children’s book, The Sky Belongs to the Dreamers, earned a Mom’s Choice Gold Award in 2019, while his Young Adult fantasy series, Around Curiosity’s Edge, received the 2021 Reader’s Favorite Book Award for Best in Mythology & Fairytale.

After over a decade of life spanning three continents, he recently made the move back to his native Pennsylvania, where he balances his writing career with work in the biotechnology industry.

Sometimes I set a timer on my phone (for 60 minutes or 90 minutes) and don't let myself do ANYTHING except write until that timer beeps.

Sometimes I sit somewhere new, maybe outside or on a trail, and describe the setting around me to get the words flowing.

Mostly writer's block is just a lazy brain fighting back. So dealing with writer's block is similar to dealing with anything of that nature. You need to find the discipline with yourself and make the choice that your dream of realizing a book six months, two years, or fifteen years down the road is only what it is because you made the choice now keep writing. You begin to see…moreHard to say but I guess its like anything that takes time and hard work. You gain an appreciation for those who have come before you. You begin to see what quality is. Beyond this, writing, at least for me, is about finishing what you started. It's becoming a medium for an idea which could someday touch the life of someone else. I think our connection through language, through written words, a thing which transcends time and space, is one of the most beautiful displays of our humanity. (less)

Pandemic thoughts...

I think we can all agree that 2020 has had a strange first half.


Call me overly optimistic but I feel the warmth off the light that I think is coming from the end of the tunnel...or that might just be the relentless west coast sun.


Either way, we're all ready for the return of even the smallest amount of normalcy.
