I feel like we've all been living in an Orwellian hellscape lately. I'll be sticking to non-fiction for a while.

I live in my head. Every now and again that life spills out onto paper. That's when we get to share it.

I don't really believe in writer's block. We are always thinking so we are always writing. The problem is that we edit ourselves too much. We are afraid to write things down. We are afraid "It isn't good enough.", so we don't write it down. The process of writing is not super sexy. It's the granny panties of the creative process. The cold, hard truth is you just have to write every day faithfully and edit later. I write for days or even a month before I edit the first time. That way I don't kill a good idea before it even gets off the ground.

It's not sexy but here it is... write. Write all the time. Write every day.
You are writing in your head all the time. Force yourself to put it down on paper without judgement. I get ideas when I'm driving so I dictate to Siri. Sometimes she's a creative ball hog with her interpretations of what I'm saying, but its always good for a laugh later.

I have several poetry books in the works. I am currently exploring the topic of pain in all its forms: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. I also have a lighter side and have a few books that address love and relationships, marriage, and parenting via poetry. Some of my love for comedy writing will be appearing in future projects. The Snarky Girl Series continues!

Poetry is an insomniac and I am her enabler. I find inspiration literally everywhere. My problem is getting to bed before 3am when the siren song starts calling.

I live and work in the community affected by the Parkland shooting. During that time I saw the best and the worst examples of how people respond to tragedy. As I met with parents and children from Stoneman Douglas I felt inspired to start writing about mental health. This is a topic I have always been passionate about. Poetry was a way for me to mourn with my community and as a way to hopefully start a dialog about mental health that revolves around proactive and compassionate care instead of platitudes and 15 rounds of the political blame game.
