Don't give up, no matter how difficult or daunting it might seem.
My 1st book took me over 5years to finish and self publish.
All you need is a good support system and a way to motivate you when you require it.
Don't ever feel bad for needing to take some 'me' time and have a break from your project - whatever you choose to do in your break can help you relax and come back with fresh eyes. Just make sure you do go back to it eventually, or try and rework what you've already got if you come up with a stronger idea.

My books original setting was inspired by one of my favourite books 'The dark on' by Ronda Thompson, but as I progressed with the story, the setting changed to a more modern one, and the characters kind of wrote themselves.
My original antagonist redeeming themselves in my final edits.
