My 1st book took me over 5years to finish and self publish.
All you need is a good support system and a way to motivate you when you require it.
Don't ever feel bad for needing to take some 'me' time and have a break from your project - whatever you choose to do in your break can help you relax and come back with fresh eyes. Just make sure you do go back to it eventually, or try and rework what you've already got if you come up with a stronger idea.
