T.S. Elliot once opined, "good writers borrow, great writers steal." While this is definitely exagerration, it does serve as a reminder that reading can trigger an idea in your head; an idea that will eventually become your first novel.

If that doesn't work, there's a book that I bought more than a decade ago called "The Writer's Block" by Jason Rekulak. It has a bunch of random ideas to jump start one's creativity. I'll do a couple of them and that's always worked for me.
