Goodreads asked Frank Nemecek:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Frank Nemecek Read a lot. Read the classics. Read complete trash. Read anything by Mark Twain. Read newspapers and magazines. Read anything and everything you can get your hands on in your genre. Read more from Mark Twain.

T.S. Elliot once opined, "good writers borrow, great writers steal." While this is definitely exagerration, it does serve as a reminder that reading can trigger an idea in your head; an idea that will eventually become your first novel.
