Kristel Beck My inspirations come from odd places. I will see a house or perhaps a bridge and then my mind works overtime. I will be working or driving or trying to sleep, Ugh! and I will have an idea building its way into a story. I believe that I fall in love with a character way before I decide there is a story. The only stories that make it to paper are the ones that the character takes on life.
Kristel Beck I deal with writer’s block by putting my characters in a new situation, even if it’s not relevant to my story progression. If I have developed my character well enough, they will react to a new situation independently. For example, send them out to dinner. It’s amazing how conversations between the characters will suddenly develop, creating a scene that I didn’t even know was needed to be part of the story. I can do this because my characters become very real to me and have a mind of their own. Who am I to tell them how they should react to a new situation?
