If I have developed my character well enough, they will react to a new situation independently. For example, send them out to dinner. It’s amazing how conversations between the characters will suddenly develop, creating a scene that I didn’t even know was needed to be part of the story. I will be working or driving or trying to sleep, Ugh! and I will have an idea building its way into a story. I believe that I fall in love with a character way before I decide there is a story. The only stories that make it to paper are the ones that the character takes on life. (less)
