H.D. Reavis The chance to live many thoughts, emotions, and adventures safely in one's head. I have similar feelings towards reading in general, but while a book gives you a chance to experience these possibilities, writing forces you, as the author, to confront them. One of the hardest things while writing, for me any way, is separating my real life emotions from my chatacters emotions, and that's because I have to make myself feel what they're feeling in any given situation. It's challenging and exhausting, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. The reward is far greater than the struggle.
H.D. Reavis I usually find myself either baking, crocheting, or dancing when it's bad. Baking is a great way to unblock the mind. I also talk out loud a lot. Hearing the situation out loud helps- I probably look a bit crazy. I also use post it notes on my bathroom mirror.
H.D. Reavis It sounds so simple, but keep writing is the best advice. Everyone has a style or topic they like, push yourself out of that comfort zone and try a new one; write a topic from multiple view points. One of the best challenges I gave myself was to write from the male perspective- I had to ask friends and my husband for insight. It was wonderful! It opened my eyes to new ways of thinking. So keep writing, write a lot. Write the ideas, the bits of conversation, whatever.
H.D. Reavis I was reading a story about a young woman apprenticing a magician and I got to thinking about how their dynamic would be if there were laws preventing them from being together, as of he we're sharing rather forbidden knowledge. "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte has always been a favorite of mine, and I began hearing these conversations about magic in their voices. And my brain just wouldn't let it go.
H.D. Reavis There are days I think I would like to experience Wonderland, with the Hatter and the March Hair, but it would also give me high anxiety. I think one of the nicest places to visit would be Hobbiten. Very relaxing. I'd love to go and hear Bilbo recalling his adventures.
