I once heard Neil Gaiman speak at a conference and his advice always stuck with me: write or do nothing.
It means when you sit down to write and you can't get anything out, you're not allowed to do anything except maybe look out the window..after a while boredom sets in, and writing happens. I was skeptical when I heard it, but when I was writing Smoke & Mirrors, it's what got me to finish it: write or do nothing.
