Erin Silver I find inspiration everywhere: sometimes my kids will tell me a funny story or be upset by something happening in their lives. I'll get frustrated by traffic or by how we're going to eat all the leftovers in our fridge. All of these things have inspired ideas, which end up in a story or book proposal. You just have to listen to your inner voice and to everything going on around you. And take notes!
Erin Silver I'm currently working on trying to promote both of my new books - Just Watch Me and What Kids Did. It's not something that comes naturally to me and I'm learning as I go, especially as it relates to social media. I truly do not know what I'm doing but I'm determined to try. I'm also hoping to do virtual presentations to share my work with readers, teachers, librarians - anyone who wants to listen to me! I have several other projects underway, but the excitement of my first two books is taking up a lot of energy right now and I'm thrilled!
Erin Silver I had lots of ideas and manuscripts for books, but when the pandemic hit, the publishing industry changed. One of the editors I'd been writing to asked me if I wanted to write a book about how kids around the world helped others during the pandemic. Of course I said yes!
Erin Silver Never give up. If you do, you'll never get that one yes you need to keep you going.
Erin Silver Getting to tell other people's stories - they are way more interesting than any of mine! I love being able to share their experiences and accomplishments in a way that makes a difference to anyone who picks up the finished book.
Erin Silver Knock on wood, but I haven't had writer's block. Some authors insist there's no such thing! Some days I have a burst of creative energy and I sit down to write. On other days, I have to force myself to put in the time and it takes time for the page to fill. I think it's great to take a break, go for walk or do things that inspire you. The next time you sit down to write you'll be refreshed and have lots to say.
Erin Silver I sit down at my desk to write an article that's due soon. I can't decide what to write!
