Ask the Author: Neil Christiansen

“Dark White has been out for almost a year now and the response has been fantastic. It was a long labor of love and there's so much more to the story than you can find in it's pages.” Neil Christiansen

Neil Christiansen This is a great question. I don't know if I'd call it a "Mystery", but I do have a book I'm working on based on events I went through in my own life, and it's going to be a first person domestic thriller... with a twist. Tentatively called COERCIVE CONTROL.
Neil Christiansen There's no one solution. My first step is to delude myself into feeling like a writer. I close the laptop and pick up a pen and notebook. I'll go to a bar and order a bourbon and sit there with my notebook open. People look at you and you feel like you better do something. Write one word and follow it with another. It doesn't have to be involved in the story you're working on. Just write something and the juices will start flowing.
Neil Christiansen I don't know that there's an answer for this. Being a writer is just like being anything else. We aren't a separate species or anything. I like writing because it is a solitary activity and it lets me live another life one page at a time.
Neil Christiansen Write when you can. Don't let unrealistic goals demotivate you. To be a writer you just have to write and that looks different for everyone.
Neil Christiansen My current WIP is a noir mystery currently called bishopCHURCH. It is in the same vein as Dark White, but I think it's a little more lighthearted and fun.
Neil Christiansen I use music and movies and books and bourbon. Whatever it takes to find the creative spark in me to let the stories pour out.
Neil Christiansen The premise came from a photo I took of my son Gavin when he was only 4 years old. It was a quick snapshot but it stuck in my head and made me think about what that boy could grow into. Thankfully, he didn't grow into the character I wrote.
