Mark Shaiken Read my Goodreads blog post entitled: "Why Write?" It's easy to be inspired to write when I've waited so long to be a writer.
Mark Shaiken I think the hardest thing for a new writer is to actually sit down and type out the words. So, I always say, "Just write!"
Mark Shaiken My process is to try to write 6 days per week, for a minimum of 2 hours. If in those 2 hours, I write 10 words, then so be it. Usually, however, words flow and I write for much more than 2 hours because I enjoy it and I enjoy getting lost in the process. My process seems to ward off most cases of writer's block, at least so far.
Mark Shaiken See my blog for my discussion about "Why Write?" I really enjoy the process and look forward to it each day that's a writing day.
Mark Shaiken I'm in the editing phase of my next 3J legal thriller - "Cram Down" - which I hope will go on sale in the late summer. I'm working on essays for a project I call "Head Talks" which I hope to post to my Goodreads blog and Medium. Soon, I'll start on the research for my next 3J Legal Thriller, tentatively called "For Cause."
Mark Shaiken All my books take place in Kansas City. My star lawyer is a bankruptcy lawyer so there are always elements of finance, and each book draws on Kansas City's rich history of Jazz, BBQ, and the American Civil War. My book ideas come from imaginary bankruptcy cases, not from real life cases I handled when I practiced bankruptcy law for almost 40 years. The ideas for my books are a kind of literary gumbo where the ingredients are my imagination, some bankruptcy law realism, complex villains you might love to hate or hate to love, Kansas City, Jazz, BBQ and something historical - maybe the Civil War, maybe Kansas City's mobsters, maybe segregation in Kansas City, or maybe a family legacy traced to the Revolutionary War.
