J. Anthony Oaks I rarely have writer's block, but if I do have it, I deal with it by reading or investigating something related to the story I'm working on. If I'm writing about a battle scene, I will pick up a book about ancient weapons. That is where I get ideas. Looking at pictures related to my story will often kick start my writing engine.
J. Anthony Oaks It's almost embarrassing to say because it seems a bit egotistical, but when you write, you are the master of the world you create. Nothing happens in that world unless you say so. You have complete freedom to create anything you want. That's unlike anything you get in the real world even with other forms of art.
J. Anthony Oaks Write every single day. Organize your ideas. Whether they be in the form of an outline or in your skull, have a plan, and stick to it. Keep pushing until you get that story complete.
J. Anthony Oaks I am currently about 40K words into the sequel to The Emerald Brotherhood, which I am tentatively calling The Sapphire Sisterhood. It is the continuation of the story that starts in The Emerald Brotherhood with many new characters and continuing storylines of characters you already know.
J. Anthony Oaks Writing is something I think about every day. I see interesting things happening in the world and wonder how I could incorporate those things into my stories. Reality has so much to offer when looking for ideas. Current events never disappoint.
J. Anthony Oaks I wanted to write a fantasy book that included some hints of elite military teams. That's where I came up with The Leagues and the teams that would become the brotherhoods or sisterhoods.
