I get inspired by anything really! I usually end up writing something new around spring/summer each year, it’s almost like therapy 😂
I think the best thing is being in control of what I want to create, and bringing new characters and new friends into being. Sometimes it almost feels like I’m channelling some hidden force rather than completely making them up. They stay with me always!
I also love that I can go back and revisit my writing journey. Sometimes I look back at something I created years ago and surprise myself with what I wrote.

The Season of the Rose grew out of Tales from the Manor. I had such lovely responses from readers of Tales, especially to Hartshaw Manor and the connections between the stories, and I realised there was much more of the Manor’s history I wanted to explore.
I also wanted to challenge myself and improve my writing while leaning further into my love of the gothic genre. Making Season a prequel gave me the chance to go back almost a century, introduce new characters, and add more lore to Hartshaw Manor while still letting the book stand on its own.
I think I just wasn’t quite ready to leave the Manor yet!
