Thankfully, a problem I never have. I have been blessed with an imagination that is like a wellspring of ideas. All day every day is filled with thoughts about the work.

I am a fiction writer and want to write nothing else because when writing a story, you are the god of the kingdom you create. You decide who the characters are, what they are like, what they do. You decide who lives and who dies. You create the circumstances. It's almost like there is another real world that you have created. When I take a break from writing, my characters beckon me to come back.

Research your topics carefully. Learn how to write the English language properly. Take care in writing so the readers can see with their mental eye what you are describing. If you are writing fiction, remember conflict and contrast.

A California screenwriter and I have been working on adapting the story to a TV series. There is a lot of drama going on in the book, but there are so many other paths to explore, which we have done in the screenplay. New characters, new situations, and opportunities to further define characters in depth. We are nearing completion of this project. Once done, we will start work on adapting the story to a stage show, which will present an entirely different perspective. We are also working on foundations for spin-offs, perhaps with feature films, which should prove interesting.

In high school, I was fortunate in that I could take an elective in place of English, so I chose Creative Writing. I discovered that I could let my imagination run wild! On active duty in the navy, on every ship, I always volunteered for the collateral duty of Public Affairs Officer. This allowed my the opportunity to write newsletters and press releases that ultimately got published in base newspapers and even The Navy Times.

I started out writing about my father, whom I greatly admired. He was a US Navy dive-bomb pilot who led many of the strikes in the Pacific Theater in WWII. Though he had many exciting adventures, there were many more stories that involved his brother, father and grandfather. So the book morphed into something grander. There are a lot of interesting things about the people and place at the time, South Carolina in the late 1940s and 1950s that I wanted to share. All the events in the book are actual events.
