I'm a doctor, and I've noticed that a lot of dramatic medical/first responder TV shows and books are not very good. They seem to be written by people who don't actually have medical experience. Seriously, I saw a firefighter TV show where they had 40 firefighters try to push a dump truck by hand. Why? A typical dump truck weighs at least 12 tons! You can have plenty of drama and excitement and still show how an operating room works.
So I decided to write books that showed you reality with actual real drama rather than making it 100% escapism. And believe me, the hospital can be a very dramatic place.

I move on to a different section of the story or go on a long walk. I don't write the story necessarily in sequence, so sometimes I will write some scenes that are happening months away from what I'm actually writing. It often helps with the block to let me figure out how to get from where I'm stuck to where I'm going.
