A.K. Madison I cannot tell a lie. I stole the idea and the title from a short story by Roald Dahl that was made into a TV drama by Alfred Hitchcock. It's called "Lamb to the Slaughter." In relates the story of a police officer who's running around on his wife and asks her for a divorce. She's incensed and hits him over the head with a frozen leg of lamb. She then roasts it and serves it to the officers who have come to investigate the murder.

I was inspired by this to have Mrs. Reynolds bash Icky Wicky over the head with a Virginia ham which she is preparing for Darcy and Elizabeth's wedding reception. I should be ashamed of myself, but I'm having an awful lot of fun writing it. So much more creative than a baseball bat.
A.K. Madison I have no idea. Sometimes there's a prompt or a challenge, sometimes somebody just says something that catches my fancy, and sometimes there's an issue I'd really like to address.
A.K. Madison I've got two in the works and one sort of back in the pipeline. One is a romantic thriller set in the Regency and entitled "Married in Haste." The second is a modern set in a fictitious small town in northern New Jersey and has the working title "Ham to the Slaughter." Both feature my favorite couple, Elizabeth and Darcy.
A.K. Madison I don't have a lot of writer's block, maybe because I did a lot of technical writing where I just had to write. I take a break and usually try to get some cleaning done.
A.K. Madison Just write. Try if you can to put together a group of friends who will lend you moral support, and then just write. Don't be intimidated by that blank page (or screen).
A.K. Madison I get to spend all the time I want with my favorite characters. That's what I loved about writing "Rose Cottage." I got to spend all that time thinking about Darcy and Elizabeth.
A.K. Madison A two-sentence horror story. For me that would be: "No backups."
A.K. Madison Mars, no question. I've been fascinated by it since childhood and have read every novel from Edgar Rice Burroughs' classics through "The Martian." I would explore and write letters home--or send messages.
