I stole the idea and the title from a short story by Roald Dahl that was made into a TV drama by Alfred Hitchcock. It's called "Lamb to the Slaughter." In relates the story of a police officer who's running around on his wife and asks her for a divorce. She's incensed and hits him over the head with a frozen leg of lamb. She then roasts it and serves it to the officers who have come to investigate the murder.

I was inspired by this to have Mrs. Reynolds bash Icky Wicky over the head with a Virginia ham which she is preparing for Darcy and Elizabeth's wedding reception. I should be ashamed of myself, but I'm having an awful lot of fun writing it. So much more creative than a baseball bat. (less)

Pride, Prejudice, and Tomato-y Goodness

I’m deep in the throes of finishing up The House in Audley Street, working like a demon towards that September release. And this time, I’m flying solo. It’s not a practice I recommend. I would generally say that she who is her own editor has a fool for a client. But circumstances, schedules, and time … Continue reading Pride, Prejudice, and Tomato-y Goodness Read more of this blog post »

“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
Mother Teresa of Calcutta

“In the best of times, our days are numbered anyway. So it would be a crime against nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were designed in the first place: the opportunity to do good work, to enjoy friends, to fall in love, to hit a ball, and to bounce a baby.”
Alistair Cooke

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
